Bike PGH: May Nonprofit of the Month

Bike PGH Logo

The city of Pittsburgh has a large community of bicyclists, and a ten-year plan to introduce over 120 miles of new trails, bicycle lanes, and other street improvements. It’s an ambitious goal, and one organization brings together this two-wheeled community. Bike PGH, a Pittsburgh-based 501(c)(3), is an organization whose mission is to transform Pittsburgh streets to make biking and walking commonplace for all Pittsburghers in order to improve our quality of life and reduce the harmful effects of car dependence in our communities.

At HBT Digital, we’re bike lovers, owners, and support this awesome organization. We’re members, and have participated in their “OpenStreetsPGH,” one of the best Pittsburgh-based events in our opinion. Every May, June, and July they close down streets in popular neighborhoods and people can walk, run, bike, skate, or just hang-out in car-free zones. Local restaurants give out water and goodies, people hang with their friends and neighbors; it’s epic! For this reason, we’re selecting them as our May “Nonprofit of the Month.”

Bike PGH’s Values

Bike PGH strives to make Pittsburgh a more livable place. What do they mean by “livable”? It means they value:

Equity and Inclusivity:  People of all abilities, incomes, ages, genders, and ethnicities should have a voice in car-free transportation options.

Safe Access:  Pittsburghers are able to easily and safely access all the things they need in life without relying on a car.

Clean Air:  Improving air quality and mitigating climate change should be prioritized for all Pittsburghers through less fossil fuel usage.

Civic Engagement:  Collaborating with partners, sharing best practices and building grassroots movements help us achieve our mission.
