How to Market Your Business in 2022

With the start of a new year comes new marketing strategies for your business, and it’s certainly important to know which new marketing strategies are worth trying. Let’s dive into how you should approach your next marketing strategy of the new year!

Start with The “Why”

First and foremost, understand why you are doing what you do. We recommend the book “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek. The main gist is to have a reason to “get out of bed” and make an impact on the world.

Of course, you’ll need to actually market your business in order to create a successful brand. Marketing, be it “word of mouth,” handing out business cards, or creating a video, helps create brand awareness. Once someone sees your content enough times, your business will be recognized in a crowded room – that’s a great place to be!

The development of smart technology has given the world the great advantage of accessing the internet at the touch of a finger. We adults are constantly on our phones (actually, about 77 percent of us!), so marketing your business digitally makes a lot of sense, like creating content, managing a social media page, or even running ads.

Know and Understand Your Audience

To know who your audience is is crucial in marketing, but to understand what your audience enjoys and wants to see should be another step in your marketing strategy. This is where market research comes into play. You can utilize the surveying method, as well as focus groups, to analyze what exactly your market likes. Once you figure this out, your tone over digital platforms must also match their expectations!

Do You Have Goals?

Having specific goals can help drive what you do as a business. Do you want to increase brand awareness this year? Do you want to hit a certain number in sales/new clients? What about your social media presence… Do you want a better one of those? It’s good to sit down with your leadership team and establish these goals early so that you know what you want to accomplish before the end of the year.

Having specific goals in mind can also help motivate a team. If you’re working toward a goal, things can get competitive within a group of like-minded people! Goals shape your business into a specific direction, which narrows down your audience quicker.

What’s a Reasonable Budget?

The first step to figuring out what your reasonable budget should be is to understand what your business can afford each month in digital ads. It’s important to set aside a certain amount of money for digital ad space so you can stay consistent. WebFX says that a company should be spending between 7 and 10 percent of its overall revenue on marketing. This may seem like a lot, but it’s totally worth it in the long run!

Where Should I Advertise?

Choosing the right channels to post on is probably the most integral part of digital marketing. If you are advertising on the wrong channels, your target audience may never see, or engage with, your content. This is when you should figure out where your target audience “hangs out.” For example, you wouldn’t advertise on TikTok if your target audience is an older cohort. If your target audience is students aged 10-22, social media might be the best place to be. Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram are all great platforms to be on when marketing toward the younger generation.
