Valentine’s Day… The day of love, candy, and digital marketing! Americans are expected to spend over $21.8 billion on Valentine’s Day. It’s no wonder that brands are rushing online to spend and advertise to their target audience. We’re guessing most ads skew towards men looking for deals. The marketing opportunities that this holiday provides to companies are endless (and some could use help on their execution), and you’re about to learn why.

Kraft’s Candied Mac ‘n Cheese

Kraft Macaroni & Cheese doesn’t sell candy or chocolates, but the company has found its own way to hop onto the Valentine’s Day bandwagon. Kraft introduced pink macaroni and cheese (that tastes sweet) as a way to be recognized during this holiday. This product made its way to Adweek, where it was described as a cheesy marketing stunt.

1800flowers.com and Google Ads

Another company utilizing Valentine’s Day digital marketing is 1800flowers.com. It’s safe to say that this same-day flower delivery company is also making use of this holiday. As a flower company, Valentine’s Day is an important day to market digitally (especially during a pandemic). The company’s Google Ad marketing tactics has landed its brand a top spot on Google when you search for “Valentine’s Day specials.”

Brooklinen’s V-Day Attempt

Another company that tried to utilize Valentine’s Day-esque Google Ad search term is Brooklinen, a linens company. When searching “Valentine’s Day specials” on Google, Brooklinen shows up as the top result. However, there was no themed landing page. Here’s the ad:

It’s clearly describing a huge Valentine’s Day deal the company has going on. When you click on the link, though, it says absolutely nothing about Valentine’s Day. They could use a digital marketing manager to compare their Google Ads and the corresponding landing page! Friendly tip for all of the digital marketers out there: always make sure that your landing pages reference the ad that sent traffic to the page. Colors, copy, and offers must all match.

Valentine’s Day is a major money-making opportunity for businesses and digital marketing can help lead the way to success. Some companies are killing it with their ads, like 1800flowers.com, and some need a bit of work. If you work with a digital marketing professional, your ads and landing pages will all be on point. Sure, it is a consumer centric holiday, but it doesn’t hurt to show your love with some pink mac ‘n cheese.
